Hair Review: Halley's Curls

This is my review on Halley's Curls Malaysian Hair
2 16in packs and 1 silk lace closure (price is not given on website because it is out of stock)

This particular hair is old. I purchased one pack like in mid 2009 or 2010 and I purchased the other pack in May of 2011. Why so apart? Well, this was my first, first time trying "good quality" hair not from the beauty supply store. An associate friend of mine introduced me to buying online hair and she provided me with tons of websites to choose from. I chose Halley's Curls because it was within my price range as a first time trier. When I ordered the hair, I was looking to do a full head sew-in because I didn't want to have to perm any left out hair. So I bought the Silk Lace closure so my hair style would look more realistic. Like I said, I was new at this and didn't know how many packs to buy and what lengths to get. I wanted it long so I could do all sorts of styles-but I realized the length didn't match my body type. Mind you, I was unaware how much hair I'd have or how thick the hair was. I am used to beauty supple hair. We can do so much with just two packs of hair. I thought that one pack and a closure would be enough. Fast forward, to make a long story short..stuff happens on life.

I wore the first pack. I didn't have much thoughts on it except it really didn't match my hair color in really good light and I noticed split ends on the hair. I didn't know if the split ends was already on the hair or if it came from heat. I stopped wearing the hair until I bought a second pack. When I got the second pack, I did not wash it before my installment. So the hair was real thick, wavy, full and long. I looked like a bush. I was afraid to cut the hair. I washed the hair with the Dove hair products that is listed on Halley's Curls website. I was softer..still wavy, full and long. To me, the hair didn't straighten good with the tools I had. When start to apply heat again, I noticed the same issue. So I stopped using heat and tried rodding the hair with hair rods or flexi rods to get curls. To get the curls to stay I used gel and spritz. Bad idea. I had to use clarifying shampoo after I used the alcohol base products.
It seems like after this process, the hair didn't come back. I used clarifying shampoo a lot.

I still use the hair..I eventually made a 3/4 wig out of it.

I cut a piece of the weft, I sealed it with fray check and I sewed the weft ends down that I cut. After, I noticed no shedding. The hair started to shed more (but not massive-1/8 shed everyday) when I brush it to eliminate the tangling. It never sheds when I run my fingers through it. I noticed the ends shed due to them being damaged.

Products used:
Dove Intensive repair Shampoo/Conditioner, Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo/Conditioner
less than a dime of oil (Jojoba, Olive Oil, Castor Oil and Kemi Oil mixture
Homemade leave-in conditioner (made with Dove)
water base heat protector (Chi guard or Via Natural Thermal Protector)

I know I need better hair products than that. Some days it's shiny and silky and other days, it is not.

~Update:
I cut the dead ends off 4-15-12
